Summer Food Distribution in Kansas

Aug 18, 2022 | News

This summer, Life360 Community Services had the opportunity to serve in Kansas! Through a USDA SFSP feeding grant, we were able to distribute to 12 Southeast Kansas towns from June-August.

The Process:

Each weekday morning, our site directors arrived at our Springfield Headquarters to load up food bags filled with meals to take to Kansas. These meals consisted of whole grain, fruit, vegetable, meat/meat alternate, and milk and each bag contained enough food for a week. After packing up food for all their distribution sites, they were on their way!

After arriving in each town, they would work with the volunteers at the church site to distribute food bags to families that came through their drive-thru line. Each site had a set amount of food that could be distributed through USDA guidelines, so food would be passed out until the end of the distribution time or until all food was gone!

The Response:

Over the course of the summer, 80,535 meals were distributed in Kansas to children ages 18 and under.

“The response from the community was incredible. We had countless volunteers jump on board immediately. We were going into a new area and weren’t quite sure about what was going to happen, but the community got on board immediately to help us get food to kids who needed it,” said Matthew Cederblom, Director of Logistics.

We had the opportunity to serve in the following towns, with assistance from local churches and volunteers:
